ART APPRECIATION

1. Appreciating Art is personal and private Much has been written, taught and learned about it.

But in the end it is from the eye and mind of the artist to the eye and mind of the beholder or collector

2. There are many optical illusions and rules of balance, theories of colour and space that make the whole.

3. It is the content within the given measurements that please, satisfy, frighten, disgust - whatever the techniques used.

4. The subject may be colour, shapes, war, peace, figures, machines, crowds, land sea or skyscapes etc. All have their place and all their basic rules to please the eye.

5. Composition, balance, contrast, atmosphere should be there in a cohesive whole,

6. Your gut instinct eye and brain will say what appeals to you.

7. Originality may startle you, but that is good

8. Viewing great paintings is the best education in art

9. Analyse for yourself the reasons of why you can live with it, why you want to live with it.

10. To sit for hours and devour an enjoyable painting can refresh every fibre. Try it! Like music it can merely absorb the emotions but it can also absorb the intellect, the brain by the total ability to determine the constituent parts of its creation; the meaning, construction and technique.

11. Great therapy for a mind overloaded with every day problems,

12. Try it!
